BIOGRAPHY A quartet based out of Brighton, England and who have been together for a number of years now, but started to make serious waves during the early part of 2000 when they were called Severance. An excellent 3-track demo EP entitled 'Insecta Evolution' seriously impressed Undergroove Recordings (home of Charger, Matter and 3 Stages Of Pain) and a debut album on this label was soon planned. During these plans it was discovered that another band - also called Severance - could potentially cause problems in the future, so for that reason and the desire to have a more memorable moniker they changed their name to Johnny Truant during February, 2002. The name stems from the Mark Z. Danielewski's cult book - 'House Of Leaves' - and is the name of a drug addled criminal character. It was during the Spring of 2002 they worked doggedly on their debut album - The Repercussions Of A Badly Planned Suicide - which was recorded at Philia Studios, Oxfordshire, England with the much lamented Dave Chang. It was mixed by Joe Gibb at the Mighty Atom Studios, Swansea, Wales and the artwork was created by Aaron Turner (Isis). An incredible package that did not fail to deliver anything but a spectacular album released at the beginning of December, 2002. The Johnny Truant sound is rather unique, being something that has managed to combine all the best elements of noisecore and death metal without sounding like they come from either sub-genre. Experimental and extreme, often brutal and even occasionally melodic they are a band that are truly something special, producing music that is both fresh and innovative. What more can anyone ask for? They're ready to dance ... are you? JOHNNY TRUANT - 'I Am The Primitolagist Mr Robert Sapolsky' (unfinished version) |
