There are many exciting bands around the UK currently playing a more technical form of metalcore and All Hail The Ruin who are based around the Birmingham/Solihull area are laying claim to their space on every discerning fans playlist. This recording is a follow-up to their debut EP "A Theme For Murder", however this time it has only been released in digital form (downloadable from itunes, etc) and so sadly there’s no artwork (a consequential casualty of this media format).

But let’s get down to the music and here they don’t disappoint. It’s a style that contains cascades of finger flexing guitar notes, sonic detonations and pleasing twin lead riffs. These allow songs to ascend high before dropping into chugging metalcore breakdowns and the venomous vocal shouts with an occasional booming deep growl that contains the malice of Satan himself. The riffs are often intricate and rarely remain static, regularly taking off into a mad chaos that’s reminiscent of classic Dillinger Escape Plan. However, shape is interspersed with some seriously heavy chugging and constant switching between a mix of styles that include differing elements of metalcore, mathcore and even death metal.

Over the four songs it’s an intense assault and one that climbs and plunges on a rollercoaster ride of almost epic proportions, containing plenty of interesting riff patterns and featuring enough fret action to please most. With a strong EP of tracks capable of levelling most of Birmingham (and that can only be a good thing), All Hail The Ruin could become a name more descriptive than abstract and here they have given so much promise, it’ll be an eager wait to see where they take it next.
