An exciting debut release from this six-piece band that are based in
and around Manchester. The band has existed in different guises since late 99', but
it wasn't until early this year (2001) that the current line-up had settled, started to
gig and then released this demo during July. Track Listing: 01. Circus

Opening with bizarre dialog and then bursting into the first few chaotic moments
of the initial track, you know that this is going to be an interesting and different
listen, even a challenge. The songs are extremely progressive, with an off kilter
experimental sound that gripped my interest almost immediately. Many mixes of styles
and sounds (that are hard to describe) are contained within this maelstrom, which include
jazz interjections and the most deranged vocals this side of the Atlantic. It's good (no, it's great) to hear a band doing something completely different, and this lot are certainly doing that. It's as heavy as fuck, but rarely taking the usual easy way out with verse, chorus, bridge, verse, chorus, type structures, but presenting a diverse mix of noises depicting a throbbing conflict of musical creativity. Still, this EP is very enjoyable with some besieging songs that provoke the listener, that innervate your musical preference and not hold it in contempt. It is clear that this is not a band choosing the well worn path, but with each member electing to take their own route, which is anyway other than the expected one. It is enjoyable, yet not necessary easy listening as it comes at a price. You have to put some effort in to get something out, you have to take a big bite and chew well, before you'll taste the full flavour. But having done that you can just sit back, and savour...
