This is the first demo EP from a 4-piece Leicester band, which were formed during January 2003 and showcases their powerful blend of brutal metal. This is Black River Project Y’all!!

Mixing old school thrash with gritty death metal and just a touch of hardcore, the highly distorted and rough sound, manages to combine catchy riffs that indelibly etch into your mind, with the most immense gravely vocals.  The result of the combined elements are so distinctive, it gives the sound huge character and lends an identity all of its own.  Crushing downtuned riffs, mercilessly chugging between rhythms of thumping drums and rumbling bass, ridden bareback by the demonic growl of Satan himself.

Three songs steal the limelight, “Those Whom” a fast paced flay, through old school thrash aka Testament, tinged around the edges with Machine Head. “Pinhead” is more evil sounding with echo’s of Entombed messing with Obituary, and is very memorable, and “The River Runs Black” at a slightly slower pace, more chugging and building to an epic stature, in a grinding death style.

There is little that is new here and there are few innovative surprises, but what they produce has character and is exciting, is played well and with enthusiasm, and you damn well know they’re enjoying themselves. The band have had these songs written for sometime now, so it will be very interesting to see what any new material sounds like and see if they can manage to maintain this level of quality and intensity. And they are even more awesome live, go catch ‘em!
