A north-east Essex band formed in late 2002 with an average age of just fifteen. "Penumbra" is their recently recorded, self-financed debut EP that was produced by the awesome Mark Daghorn at his 'New Rising Studio' in Peldon, Essex.

They play a style of metal that largely harks back a couple of decades to the last half of the 80’s, when the shining lights were the likes of Metallica, Megadeth and Testament and the songs often carry these unavoidable comparisons - which definitely isn’t a bad thing!

“World Of Unknown” and “Scapegoat” are based around a strong lead riff that powers the way forward, sometimes fast and sometimes slow - in a very traditional and familiar way - with growling vocals and lead guitar solo’s flowing about that main stem. “Below The Surface” injects a funkier feel with a ‘Faith No More’ style bass line which blends with shrill guitar notes and interspersed with a rumbling rhythm. Finally, “Imperfect Endings” completely changes tack and takes a more 70’s rock feel with a mellow, melodic laid back feel and a nicely placed guitar break.

You realise by the time you reach the end that this is anything but a one dimensional EP. There’s an unexpected amount of variety that keeps the listener absorbed and which also shows enough promise to keep an eye on. That along with the amazing maturity from a band with such young members, Devolution may just surprise the hell out of you!
