bythewaters - Demo EP Review
(Demo CD EP)

...showing a mastery of shouting harmonic savagery, knowing with
precision when and how much to include...
...eastern ambience mixed into a sophisticated and intricate tinkering...
...creating such a captivating atmosphere that it should never end...
I am so delighted about reviewing this EP.  It is not often I am genuinely bowled over by a band and the last time I felt like this was with Severance, but these five geezers from Wimbledon, London have managed that special something.   Since I first heard a couple of mp3's from their previous Shels EP (Orchids and Chameleon) and it was confirmed with the bythewaters EP, I knew this was going to work for me.

Muted elsewhere as the new earthtone9, Mahumodo produce an incredibly different style of metal, a style that I find hard to compare so I invented one, Progcore.  There are three songs on display here, three creative and momentous portrayals of euphony.  It's refreshing and invigoratingly mature, it's gentle and yet powerful, it's not versus and chorus, not sentences, not paragraphs, but chapters, passages, soundscapes of music.  Don't let me get you thinking this is some sort of self-indulgent bilge, because that couldn't be further from the truth, this is barbaric melody crafted into a mesmerising enchantment.  There is aggression when it required, showing a mastery of shouting harmonic savagery, knowing with precision when and how much to include.  There is an eastern ambience mixed into a sophisticated and intricate tinkering, producing sounds that wash over you, creating such a captivating atmosphere that it should never end.

Absolutely stunning...I love it to bits...the emotions that surfaced made me laugh, cry and spill me drink...  These guys have just got to make more of this music.  In fact, if I was in a position of power I would pronounce it law.  I would demand from the highest authority that they become ministers of creativity producing portraits of music for the people.  In these times where there are so many occurrences of the musical equivalent of a Trabant, it great to come across a new concern producing something in the Bentley class...

I highly recommend this band and if you only make one blind purchase in your life, I suggest you would be safe to do so here.  I encourage you to give these blokes an email and I am certain they will be able to sort you out with a copy for you to cherish...
