Well here it is, the new EP from Miss:Spelt Yoof entitled the Underground Evening Masters  which is due for release in the Autumn of 2001.

Opening with 603 Strangers - the best track for me - this song is so bouncy, in a One Minute Silence kind of way.   It contains tantalisingly thick infectious grooves with a fine gyrating bass that just grips you and doesn't let go, with welcome injections of gravely vocals and aggression as it continues to play over and over in your mind...

Shoe follows closely on it's heals (sorry) with a very strange mix of musical styles telling a humorous story about the serious subject of absconding footwear!(?)   With a hip-hop framework it frequently manages to breaks into something bordering on the thrash-death side of things.  Well weird...

There's a funky start to Silent Mind, but not for long as it blasts into another heavy groove which is accompanied by fierce vocals, again switching to rap as the groove thins into hip-hop and then alternates for a while, providing a strong rapcore performance.  There's an excellent mid-section with a rhythm and matching riff to die for, it just rumbles like a bastard.  This is kind of System Of A Down jamming with HED(pe) and Kurupt joined by Max Cavilara and Puff Daddy. A complete head-fuck...

The EP finishes with another version of 603 Strangers.   The remix is heavy drum beats, slowed down tempo, with the guitar all but removed and lots of scratching.  It's different but I would of loved to hear another different song...

There are some good strong songs on this EP.  My only real criticism (and this is mean't as constructive), was the occasional emphasis on the vocals sounding like young black American's depicting a tough life in the hood.  That I guess fits the hip-hop style (and if that's what was required then it worked) but I felt it came across somewhat counterfeit for a band from Suffolk and feel personally that they could be developing their own vocal sound.  They're certainly talented enough to do so.

This bunch deliver a recipe of hard hitting metal with funky groove pestilence, mixed liberally with off-the-wall rapping and deathcore vocals.   Heat on a high flame, add a small amount of humorous lyrics and then serve immediately.  A tasty meal that you will want to try again...
