Proving the influence of William Wallace cuts no ice in the UK underground metal scene, My Minds Weapon are comprised of 4 Englishmen and a Scotsman based out of the Granite City of Aberdeen between the Dee and the Don, up in the North-east of Scotland.  They have released two EP’s and this demo is basically the second EP "Kill..." with the addition of “Lucky Like Kokura” which was recorded live.

“959 Goodbyes” and “Play Dead” tread a well worn path and sound like Hondo MacLean or a heavier Funeral for a Friend, although the latter song does have a more exploratory mid-section with some sweet guitar soloing. “The Forgotten” ends up sounding like Iron Maiden playing metalcore - from the rhythms, the guitar twiddles through to the dual guitar runs - but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing as the song actually works really quite well. However “Lucky Like Kokura” has to be the strongest song on show, with a nice complement of dual guitars and their many intricate squeaks and squeals confetti-ed throughout.  This track doesn’t sound too bad for a live demo recording either and is definitely the nearest they come to defining their own sound.

On the whole, they’re a little bit too similar to many bands coming off the back of the post-emo trip, with the contrasting combinations of heaviness against melody, growls against singing, etc, but without doing enough of anything extra to make it particularly original. It kind of leaves you feeling like you’ve heard it before, but having said that there's plenty of power and enthusiasm at the breakdowns that should convert well at a gig and keep the kids happy.  If they can find more from within rather than from influences, they have the potential to do well.
