RATE OF DEPRESS - The Rise EP

[ BACK ]   [ MAIN ]

A 5-piece band based out of New Milton on the English south coast which formed in March 2002, rateofdepress have released their first demo called "theriseEP". The quality of this recording is exceedingly poor but is very much in the truest traditions of a demo, it just puts a marker down to give an indication as to what the band are about and also to measure improvements. The production is appalling, which makes everything sound far too thin and unfortunately forming the whole EP into a very amateur shape indeed.

It contains five tracks of metal that are generally based around melody but come across too strained to impress. With untrained vocals that mix between singing and shouting, it’s really the singing that needs the most serious attention. Some of the riffs are quite credible but are just hopelessly lost in the production.

This is very much a starting point, containing unrefined basic songs that show promise but sound a little naive and sometimes clumsy, especially the constant switching of vocal styles in songs that are too thin to accommodate. However, with time their sound could be developed into something a lot more balanced.
