Until Summer were formed in the spring of 2003 in the county of Wiltshire, this is their second EP release and both on the new UK label Manmade Records.  Playing a fearsome style of metalcore, this outing showcases four songs that serve very well as an introduction to the band.

“These Savage Words (For Silence)” kicks off with brutal stabbing riffs and strong guttural vocals that are mixed with a more melodic style. “The Calm Before / The Angels Fall” continues bulldozing at pace with more angular riffs and bruising rhythms, as it punishes your ears with aggressive vocal attacks that pause only briefly for mid-session melody. “Fighting For” goes heads down for an out and out hardcore romp with a fine guitar rally toward the end. Finally, “Crow's Chorus” is simply a malicious act of aural violence with jagged riffs that go for the throat in classic metalcore style, before coming down from the frenzy and then apologising.

Trading hard-hitting metalcore with more mellow sections, Until Summer manage to stir things up but also maintain some depth to the songs and inject a little of their own character into the influences. The melodic vocals are a small cause for concern, as the singing isn’t always good and sometimes grates slightly, but it’s nothing that couldn’t be worked on. A powerful release, well worth a listen and should translate really well in a live environment - an encouraging introduction.
