Victory Flag - "Demo 2000" - Review The Flag have an old style street-hardcore sound, that is so raw and sharp, packed full of aggression and punk attitude (aka Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front, Sick Of It All, etc). Added to that is a strong metal influence that shines through and combines to give a far greater depth and variety. |

01. Pound For
Pound - An extremely fast-paced hardcore song, very raw sounding guitars with a
slightly slower section half way through, just to get your breath back. 02. Guttersnipe - A slower more chugging sound with a cool riff that dominates the song. 03. Sick Of You - An excellent song that is probably the one I like |
best on the demo, opening with and featuring strong riffs and very aggressive
vocals. It's a little more broken and not so straight ahead, with a mid-section that
thins to individual bass and guitar flurries, then gets back to the hard hitting rhythm. 04. Fallen - A song in a similar mould to 'Pound For Pound'. A straight ahead fast-paced hardcore song but this time with more of a metal injection that creates a sound not unlike very early Metallica (c. Kill 'em all). Notability, there's some solid heavy drumming to accompany the onslaught of guitar strafing. |

The production is good (it keeps/achieves that rawness), yet gives a
professional feel and considering this is a demo that hasn't had the luxury of a large
monetary budget, the end result is damn fine. It is also one of those CD's that
grows on you, the more I listened to it the more I liked it, which normally indicates the
lasting enjoyment of many plays to come. It gives just a small sample of the Victory Flag sound and imparts you with a real appetite for the full-length release, |
hopefully in late 2000. It's a sound that comes into it's own when
experienced live and should ensure no-compromise action in the mosh-pits. But most
of all it's a sound that is created by a band that not only cares about producing quality
music, but also feels passionate about the whole hardcore/metal scene. Rigsby. band website: http://www.angelfire.com/on/victoryflag |
