EP REVIEW WALRUS 1. NOW U KNOW
|
Coming across like a poor imitation of Spinal Tap, a band who go by
the equally daft name of Walrus play
bombastic cliché rock, on this their three track self-financed debut EP.
Starting with a corny sing-a-long party song that would make Dave Lee Roth cringe things dont get any better throughout this thankfully short recording. With vocals that just hang in there, they reach the nadir of their performance on track two with the truly awful attempt at a ballad entitled 'The Truth', where the singing is just too painful for the listener to survive the full song. Jumping for cover into the third track doesnt help much either, but its probably the most tolerable of them all. This is little more than generic rock, like something not particularly good from twenty years ago. Untrained and naive, non-specific rock music, non-descript chords and riffs taken from the heard a million times songbook and there seems to be no real positive side to this. Some may like its retro quality as it suggests old fashioned heavy metal, but music has moved on so much since those days and it leaves you thinking that at best this is an average pub band. Unfortunately nothing grips at all, except for how tired and cliché rock music can get and this is certainly cliché boring heavy metal with little or no attempt to do anything new. Its difficult seeing anyone wanting to listen to this today. Rigsby (30th December, 2002) |
