From the final demise of the Bournemouth metalcore monsters that were Snub, comes a new band featuring ex-members Choff and Martin Jeffery, together with three fresh youngsters who collectively make up You've Been Lied To. Formed in October 2004, this is their debut recording, in the form of a four track EP on Manmade Records.

Starting as they mean to go on, opening song “The Death Of John Coffey” (which also has an accompanying video included) hits you with a chugging wall of sound, powerful and stabbing, building into an unstoppable avalanche of hefty riffs, flanked by shrieking guitars and marshalled by bellowing vocals. With just a chance to catch breath, the searing riff of personal favourite “Safe House” rips flesh from skin and as the song gathers momentum, staccato guitars poke holes in rumbling riffs in a Botch-esque manner. The calm before the storm brings an awesomely heavy and evil sounding midsection which will make every pit happy, as it nurtures intensity to an exploding climax. The jangly opening of “Break The Grip Of Shame” is brief before the power and passion is returned, with an almost Mahumodo style of light and shade intensity mixed into out and out metalcore aggression. Finally, “Words Fail Me” probably comes closest to old school Snub, with a metal influenced hardcore ruck of relentless chugging and angry bellowing that could summon an ASBO.

This is simply an excellent EP that perhaps shows the natural progression of Snub, developing on what they had, utilising the experience as well as the youth in the band, to improve the song writing maybe without the unintentionally imposed limitations of an established band.  The songs are peppered with much more detail and strong content, which grabs your attention and holds it firm. This is an exciting debut that sounds fresh and leaves promises of much more to come.
