Drag Me Down 02. Magic Time 03. Simon Said Picture the scene, a quiet tranquil valley of rocky hills, the velvet grass mixed with moss trying it's best to cover and dominate the surface. Between the hills, on the valley floor stands thousands upon thousands of armour heavy warriors on horseback full of pent-up hostility, waiting to charge. Only the sound of the wind can be heard, whispering as if trying to |

get your attention. An arm is raised, the signal has been
given and then they charge, screaming into war... Imagine being one of those riders, in the middle somewhere, the noise, the power, the aggression, the experience. Only then can you imagine what it's like to listen to Zero Cipher. These three tracks present a fine illustration of the bands style and sound. Large chunky riffs, coming from distorted downtuned guitars, powered through overdriven amps. A mélange of murderous vocals that are psychopathically aggressive but are also shouting whispers and treacherous harmonies. The result is dirty, nasty and it has no beauty. A rhythm of barbaric drums, frequently off-beat, impart a gritty hardcore sound and turntables utilised with scratching and sampling, enchant an unfamiliarity to the foreboding walls of the genre. The nice thing about Zero Cipher's music is that it still stands out as having it's own individual sound and I think this re-recording has only helped to augment that! If you like your music to have character and power and for it to be delivered with passion and energy, then check out this band. They're a band I am sure you will be hearing a lot more of in the near future. Rigsby (6th May 2001) |
