Burning Skies are a Bristol based metal quintet that recently released their third album entitled “Greed Filth Abuse Corruption” on Lifeforce Records. Produced by Patrick Engel and Alexander Dietz and recorded at the Rape Of Harmonies studio in Germany, they have delivered eleven tracks and close on 30 minutes of magnificence! Sometime the word ‘brutal’ can be over used in this genre, but there is little doubt that this word was created with the anticipation of describing the sound of Burning Skies. Be prepared for the most brutal battering this side of a rugby scrum against the All Blacks; this is breakfast served in hell with brains scrambled, this is a steel toe-capped kick-in-the-bollocks, this is sledge-arsing in the Rockies! With screaming, squealing, growling and guttural vocals that shred at an equal rate to the grindingly, pulverising guitars and formidable pile driving drums. For the briefest half hour, huge, prime slabs of unrelenting and intense metal are hurled speaker-side, it’s as heavy and as fast as fuck without leaving even the most diminutive of moments to breathe. Shrieking guitar notes punctuate the columns of violence, where the bruised embattlements of death metal are assaulted by a blitzkrieg of thrash, grind and hardcore and together they blend into a venomous and destructive wall of sound. Sic breakdowns, mean blastbeats and Slayer-esque evil riffery are interchanged to such devastating effect that the pace, intensity and interest are never lost - none of the Swedish style bullshit here, this is bestowed with pure stripped to the bones British passion. This is clearly the best extreme metal album to be released for quite some time, but be warned as this is not for the faint-hearted and only those with a hardened constitution should apply or permanent damaged could be experienced - in fact it is fucking guaranteed.
