London based Walrus release the “Now You Know” album through Casket Music, which follows up their debut EP of the same title that came out at the end of last year. The lack of effort to even change the title of the LP to something different to the EP should have been at least a warning - but nothing could prepare you for what was to come.

At the end of eleven tracks your left feeling stunned - stunned at just how bad things can get. A collection of generic, non-descript, tired and cliché rock songs, boring, corny, cringe worthy sing-a-long heavy metal performed by nothing more than an average pub band. And that’s not the worst because they plummet further with “Sorry”, “Nothing Left” and “The Truth”, all painfully sick attempts at ballads that showcase the generally poor, tuneless and flat vocals. At times the singing (?) is just too painful for you to survive the full song and you just know he should of gone falsetto!

However, it is surprising possible to find some positives. There are numerous thought provoking lyrics throughout the album which tackle difficult subjects - it’s just a shame you can’t enjoy them. And there’s the odd decent track, like the stoner blues of “Circus”, which rocks like a good en’, maybe suggesting what they could achieve and it actually emits some convincing feeling and emotion. “Play” gives us an almost acceptable funk rock sound as does “Give It Up” which has a funky Extreme-esque vibe with a definite blues after burn.

It is easy to see how they got support to release this album as their latent talent is overwhelming, they should go onto challenge The Darkness as the new rock genius and maybe even reach the same public appreciation for song writing as Britney Spears or the Cheeky Girls. At least we know what happened to the legendary band Bad News (UK comic strip version of Spinal Tap); they have taken a name change.
