A RETROSPECTIVE on the UK Spring 2000 Tour
EARTHTONE9
and Kill II This (support Linea 77)

Having turned up to the gig on Thursday 27th April at "The Charlotte" in Leicester, I was massively disappointed to find "Earthtone9 are unable to play tonight due to illness"  What compounded the misery, was that the bloke who was behind me as I was going through the doors, I later realised was "Oz" the guitarist. I tried to find him inside but he was nowhere to be seen, until I just caught a glimpse of him disappearing out the doors about half hour later. I was hoping to get a better idea of what had happened and the impact on the rest of the tour. He was gone and there was no mention from anyone else about the absence of Earthtone9.

There was a good crowd building and the bar was quite busy, so I talked to a few people and most of them wanted to know what had happened.  There was quite a number of the crowd there to see Earthtone9. This made for lots of disappointed people, some upset about there being no proper explanation except the note on the door. After all they had paid their money to see "Earthtone9" and dare I say, felt a little short changed.

My immediate disappointment (selfish indulgence) was later followed by concern, after all these things sometimes happen and I hoped all was well with the band.  I decided to write to Oz and hopefully find out what happened.  On Wednesday 3rd May, I received an email response from Oz which helped clear up why the gig was cancelled, and this is what he said:

"just a quick note (due to leave for milton keynes show in about 2 secs)... very, very sorry about leicester... joe's wife was taken ill and he had to race home... it looked like being quite serious (rest of tour potentially cancelled and all that!)... we were not happy at all (as you can imagine)... there was a few other problems too that meant we were not in the best of moods... i know it was a shit that we didn't play and i agree that a better explanation was in order but i hope that you understand that we were in a bad way mentally... not a good excuse, but a reason anyway..."

I have also received some other information from fans who have seen the band on this tour.

On 24th April, in Dudley, Karl was extremely pissed off as he had lost his wallet containing £80 and his credit cards, although it turned out that he later found it on the tour bus.  Oz was also expressing frustration over touring and morale seemed quite low.

On this tour they have been playing a lot of new material (with the odd favourite, like Withered) but they have been pissed off with the reaction of the young audience. To the point, they were considering cancelling the Hanley gig (25th April), but that was never confirmed.
